What is the fastest gear in a manual car

I have a question. Or can I keep the car on 6th? I would probably change into 4th, but having said that, different cars have different gear ratios and handle things worse or better at different speeds. Hi, if I am driving on a motorway, I will be in 5th at 70mph. There is a 6th gear on my mums car which I will be using soon, do I have to use 6th gear?

All my cars have been only 5 gears so unsure of the 6th. Gear Speed 1st gear Between 0 mph and 10 mph 2nd gear Between 10 mph and 20 mph 3rd gear Between 20 mph and 30 mph 4th gear Between 30 mph and 40 mph 5th gear 40 mph and above 6th gear 40 mph and above.

When you are parking the car in your garage or in a parking lot, leave the transmission in the First or Reverse. The First and Reverse have the highest ratios, which make it harder for the wheels make them turn more times to spin the engine once. The slope could be steep enough to overpower the engine compression and make the car move. It could also be an old or a small engine that simply cannot produce enough compression to hold off a big, heavy car that is parked on the verge of an uphill or downhill slope.

Another reason could be a bad clutch. When this component does not work properly, there is no way the wheels will attach to the engine even after engaging the right gear.

Remember that once a vehicle starts rolling, you cannot stop it. So, which gear should you leave a manual transmission car parked in this case? Set the vehicle to the First gear when you park it towards uphill. Use the Reverse gear when it is towards downhill. Always lift the emergency brake lever in both cases.

Both manual and automatic transmissions are available, and considering the quality of each gearbox, it's clear you should go for the stick. As more and more manuals get axed from sports car lineups, we're happy to see Porsche sticking with it. Though the lineup isn't as stick shift friendly as it once was, the new Carrera S can still be optioned with a seven-speed unit.

We suspect the upcoming GT3 will also be available with a three-pedal setup. The current Camaro SS combines a 6. Opt for the 1LE track package and you've got a real road-course weapon for reasonable money.

For , Ford updated the Mustang and made a number of changes to its 5. The result is a high-revving beast with hp and an excellent noise. Step up to the Mach 1 , and you get 20 more horsepower, plus a ton of Shelby parts, including an engine oil cooler, a transmission oil cooler, dedicated brake cooling ducts, and a rear axle cooler from the GT The six-speed is straight out of the GT, meaning ultra-crisp shifts.

BMW has yet to fully reveal the upcoming M3 and M4, but it's already confirmed both cars will be available with manual transmissions, and make horsepower. Thank goodness. And the combination of that cubic-inch naturally aspirated V-8 and a six-speed manual is especially sweet, even if the optional eight-speed auto might be quicker on the drag strip.

It retains the same horsepower rating, and the same intoxicating soundtrack. Ford only offers the GT with a stick. Just as it should be. Its 5. Sadly, we can't say the same for the supercharged GT
