Numalogic software

Note that the port pin-outs vary by device. Your computer or adapter will almost certainly have a 9-pin port, and it too will be wired as DTE, although the pin numbers for a 9-pin port are different than a pin port. The table below gives the pin names and numbers for both 9 and pin ports. You will need a 9-to pin "cross-over" or "null-modem" cable to connect between your computer and the PLC.

These "modem control signals" are used to buffer traffic over ports that may become congested and the receiving device a modem, usually needs to tell the data terminal to stop sending data. For a direct connection to a PC this is not a problem. Likewise, the NLSW software honors those signals on the 9-pin side too. The PC 9-pin side of the cable also needs to be a female connector.

Raised by DCE when modem synchronized. Arriving data from DCE. Sending data from DTE. Raised by DTE when powered on. Raised by DCE to indicate ready.

Raised by DTE when it wishes to send. Set when incoming ring detected - used for auto-answer application. Cable shield connected here. Defined but typically not implemented. No connection. Modems If connecting a program loader through a modem, that modem will almost always have its port wired as DCE Data Communiations Equipment.

When the original standard was written, was envisioned as a short distance 50 feet max. Transmitted data from DCE. Data input from DTE. Monitored by DCE. Oh yes, it is always the PLC's fault. Never mind the broken Prox laying on the floor there. I have even walked past a machine carrying the Laptop on my way somewhere else, and all of a sudden, I created their problem somehow. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I think maybe ATS purchased this division of Westinghouse. Any idea on where to get tech support on this system? Thanks so much, Dave. I can take a picture of this system if anyone wants to see it.

I'm visual and I know sometimes a picture jogs my memory. I'm not sure how to actually set up a link and how to host a picture for people to click and view but I can email it no problem. I know this PLC is very old. Thanks, Dave. Dave, Your in for a tough haul with this one.

There is no special "plugs, dongles, or other things" required. In any case, if the unit is working it should talk thru at least one of the ports.
